The Haute Provence region
The amazing beauty of the countryside just behind Mont Ventoux,
is described as "all of Provence but with a touch of the Alps", the Baronnies has a combination of
all the charms of Provence, but in a wonderfully unspoilt and dramatic mountain setting.
        We loved the village of Buis-les-Baronnies so much, that we decided our sixth cottage would have
here. It is our idea of a perfect French place to live or stay, with its spreading plane trees,
arcades, outdoor cafés and the towering Rocher St Julien which dominates the entire village.
Close to Vaison-la-Romaine and the Luberon Valley, Buis is very well placed for sight-seeing
          It is the most wonderful walking country with paths criss-crossing hills of olives,
lavender and vines. providing Buis with something unique in all seasons.

        This is the region of perched hill-top villages and chapels; the route of Hannibal;
bike and boules contests; olives, olive oil, tilleul and herbs; wines of Chateauneuf-de-Pape,
Mont Ventoux and the Baronnies; fountains, fairs and art festivals;
and hikes though the most magnificent countryside imaginable.

The village of Buis-les-Baronnies is ideally situated inland from the plains of Provence
and Orange - and into the foothills of the Baronnies Mountains behind Mont Ventoux
where the Tour-de-France climbs almost every year - only 18 kms from Vaison-la-Romaine
and an easy drive to the Luberon Valley of A-Year-in-Provence fame.

A cheery little Haute-Provençale pig keeping an eye on the paté at Wednesday market in Buis.
