4. GASCONY / PYRENEES REGION - A COTTAGE TO RENT IN FRANCE La Maison des Arcades
Left - stairs from the lower hallway
lead up to the living areas, bedroom and bathroom
Right - the front doors in the lower hall lead straight out under the
arcades.
We have recently had the floors in the hall and stairs paved with bright terra-cotta
tiles.

Looking out the front door into the arcades
there is usually something happening
like the group of artists shown here sketching this picturestque village
- or maybe a wedding party
wanting their photos taken here - and sometimes a school group having a
lesson in history.
Flowering geraniums hanging in front of our doorway.

The cottage at Tillac
The classified and most historic La Maison des Arcades
dates back to 1470, although there were
previous dwellings here in a 13C village. Described as a like a 'set from
Shakespeare', the quaint street is often
photographed and features in postcards of Gascony. The sunny living areas
overlook the cobbled street,
which is for foot traffic only, and has cool sitting out place under the arcades.
Ground floor
The front door leads straight into the entrance hall with stairs up to
the first floor and access to the garage where
our car lives when we are not in France. There are 4 mountain bikes and tennis
raquets for the local courts.
The clothes dryer and outdoor furniture also are down here.
The key-code to the tennis court is in our house as we have paid up membership.
Our guests can play free of charge.
Middle floor
Stairs lead up to a hall leading into a long living / dining area. One
end has a dining setting and desk, original exposed
beams and terra-cotta tiled floors. The other end of the room has 2 comfortable
couches, and an oak floor with rug.
The kitchen, separated by a bench, has built in cupboards, fridge; single
bowl sink and washing machine;
gas / electric cook top with range hood. There is an excellent bench top oven
and a microwave.
There are two bedrooms on this floor, one with a double bed and the other
with two singles.
The modern bathroom has bath with shower over, fitted wash basin, and WC.
